| The Glasgow based track at Wishaw first opened its gates for greyhound racing on 26th January 1934. The track was situated at 3° 56' W 55° 46' N and had a circumference of 400 yards. Its principal races were the Wishaw St Leger, the Wishaw Gold Cup, the Wishaw Spring Cup and the Pitmans Derby. Sprints were run over 300 yards, standard races over 500 yards, distance races over 700 yards, and extended races over 900 yards. After operating successfully for over 65 years, the flapping track held its final meeting on 1st September 2001. The site on which the former track once stood is still visible and is used as a sports ground. |
